Three Cities in the U.K. that will Transport You to the Bridgerton Regency Era
Bridgerton took the world by storm. Millions of televisions across the globe were streaming this steamy and sophisticated Regency-era drama. From the stunning costumes to the incredible set, the production is undeniably impeccable. However, many of these filming locations actually exist in cities and towns throughout the United Kingdom. Here are the top three cities you must visit when you’re going on your Bridgerton tour.
Bath - The majority of the show is filmed in the old and stunning city of Bath. Bath has been famous for centuries, as it was mentioned in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. This city has history and is worthy of its legendary status. Exact filming locations in Bath include Holburne Museum, Beauford Square, the Royal Crescent, and more. The Roman Baths are a historical site, and the gothic architecture of Bath Abbey and Pulteney Bridge are attractions that you do not want to miss.
London - London is an obvious attraction and one of the most prolific cities in the entire United Kingdom. When visiting London, you must visit Ranger’s House (Bridgerton House) and Old Royal Naval College, among other famous sites - Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and Harrods, to name a few.
Windsor - All of the hunting scenes in the televison series were shot in the lush Windsor Great Park. Being the home of Windsor Palace, Windsor seems to be an important place for one to visit. Take a tour of Windsor Castle and St. George’s Chapel. If you have little ones, there is also a LEGOLAND resort that you will not regret visiting.
Your Character, Your Destiny, Your Destination: Pick a Character and Let Them Be Your Guide
Bridgerton fans are not only hooked because of the riches, luxuries, costumes, and set design. The stories and the characters are truly what brings the show to life. We’re going to do a fun little exercise. Follow your heart, choose a character, and allow them to guide you to a random destination in the United Kingdom.
Now, Let the Games Begin!
If you chose Queen Charlotte, then your destination is Buckingham Palace. Although Buckingham Palace is not in the Bridgerton universe, Buckingham Palace is probably the most royal and queenly structure in the whole world. Where famous royal weddings and events have been held, the Palace is a must-see for any visitor to London. Allow your inner Queen Charlotte to take over while taking in the Palace known as Buckingham.
If you chose Simon Basset, then your destination is Oxford University. Being one of the oldest universities in the world, Oxford University is a world-renowned institution known for molding the most intelligent minds. Not only did Simon Basset and Anthony Bridgerton attend this university, but so did Margaret Thatcher, Oscar Wilde, and Rosamund Pike. Explore the institution if you’re able to get to Oxford.
If you chose Daphne Bridgerton, then your destination is Ranger’s House. Being the protagonist of the first season, it’s only appropriate that you visit her family home. Ranger’s House, known as the Bridgerton family home, is an incredible destination and easy to access in London. Ranger’s House is also a museum of 19th century art. Peruse the art collection when visiting this stunning space.
If you chose Kate Sharma, then your destination is Windsor Great Park. Located in Windsor, you will recognize this space as the location where Kate fell from her horse while hunting. This green space is ideal for pictures and is free to the public.
If you chose Anthony Bridgerton, then your destination is Wrotham Park. Located in Hertfordshire, a Bridgerton fan will recognize this structure as the Bridgerton family country home, also known as Aubrey Hall. Anthony Bridgerton feels like he is able to relax in Aubrey Hall, and we hope that you feel right at home in Wrotham Park.
What Would Queen Charlotte Do? Travel Etiquette Tips from the Queen Herself
When traveling the world, you want to relax and have fun. All you could want is a fancy-free life. However, did you know that there is such a thing as travel etiquette? If Queen Charlotte were to travel the world in the Bridgerton universe, here are some of the tips and rules by which she would absolutely abide. When you take note of the following, you will receive Queen Charlotte’s golden stamp of approval.
You are a Visitor, Act Accordingly - When anyone enters the Queen’s Palace, they regard themselves as a guest. You should treat any new country or city you visit as if it were the Queen’s Castle. You are a guest. Be respectful of those that are around you and don’t expect special treatment from the locals. If you are kind and courteous to all, you will receive the same back. The same goes for keeping your spaces tidy. Sure, a server is there to clear your table when dining out, but recycle when you can - and never litter! Treat each new place you visit as sacred royal ground.
Learn as Much as You Can - Before boarding your flight, research not just tourist attractions and restaurants, but make sure you research a country’s lingo, language, and culture. Some things that are common in certain places are not so common in others, or may even be perceived as offensive. Giving a “thumbs up” or tipping at a restaurant may be common in your hometown, but abroad it may be a signal of disrespect. Do the research prior, so you are not caught in an awkward situation.
Learning the lingo and certain common phrases may be helpful for you, too. It’s nice to be able to order coffee like a local, learn simple phrases to connect with others, and read signs to get around easier. Who knows? You might have some fun knowledge to bring home with you. Queen Charlotte would say that knowledge is power.
Be Mindful of Your Selfies - Queen Charlotte encourages every traveler to take photos and selfies of their experiences while traveling. However, some places are simply not meant to be photographed. Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower are obvious attractions that are meant to be photographed, but certain locations have a grave undertone that should be respected, and a snap of a selfie could be tremendously disrespectful. Queen Charlotte would suggest you never take selfies or group snapshots during a concentration camp tour. Stick to taking group photos or selfies for other attractions and occasions.
Queen Charlotte, above all else, would want you to have as much fun as you can; and, the best way for a traveler to have fun is to follow rules and be respectful of others and their surroundings. If you are true to yourself and courteous to others, then you are fit to travel with Queen Charlotte’s Court.
There is so much to see when visiting the United Kingdom, but I'm here to help you plan every detail. Enjoy your travels and allow yourself to escape into your Regency-era dreams. Reach out when you are ready!
